James Robie Fine Art
Sculpture
I started sculpting in wood in the early 80s and moved on into stone a few years later.
Except for a few pieces all of my work is carved out of a single piece of wood or stone using hand tools.
My wood pieces are almost always painted, stained or gilded with the surface quality being as important as the form.
In 2018 I introduced natural elements, sycamore branches and palm fronds into my work and represents a shift towards assemblage which continues in my current work using ceramic elements.
